Youth Mental Health First Aid

This skills-based course is designed to teach participants, who regularly interact with youth ages 12 to 18, how to identify, understand, and respond to an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
Topics Covered
- Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
- Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
- How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
- How to connect the youth with help
- Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
Who Should Attend?
Open to anyone 18+ who regularly works with youth. This program is great for teachers, school staff, parents, coaches and camp counselors.
Format
This program is taught in 2 3.5 hour long sessions. Both sessions must be attended. See below for dates and additional information.
Dates: Monday, August 19 & Monday, August 26
Time: 4:30pm-8:00pm
Location: Multi-Purpose Room in Canton Community Center (40 Dyer Avenue)
Fee: Free with Registration Required
